Artist Biography
Over the last four decades, Ned Kahn has completed over 160 major public art projects. In many of these projects, he collaborated with design teams from an early stage, ultimately creating a seamless integration of art and the built environment. Kahn’s work blurs the boundaries between art, architecture, landscape and nature.
Ned Kahn has successfully collaborated with over one hundred architecture, landscape and engineering firms. Here is a partial list of his collaborators:
Olin studio, Koning Eisenberg, Andrea Cochran, Moshe Safdie, Gensler, SOM, Zaha Hadid,
Peter Walker and Partners, Pelli Clark Pelli, NBBJ, Field Operations, Nicholas Grimshaw, Fred Fisher, Johnson/Fain, HOK, Tom Oslund, RTKL, Overland Partners, Barton Myers, Smith Group, Walker Macy, ARUP.
In all of these projects, Kahn’s intent was to create a visual oasis where people could connect with, and perhaps find some respite, with the larger forces of nature. In recent years, the health benefits of immersion into nature have been well documented. Kahn strives to create kinetic environments that are soothing to the senses and nervous systems, creating places that allow people to relax and open to the beauty and healing attributes of nature.
