Pulse Fields, Marquette University Wellness Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

In 2025 we completed the installation of a kinetic artwork for the atrium of the new Wellness Center at Marquette University. The artwork consists of 4, interconnected panels, each 5’x5’ and held to the wall by springs so the panels can vibrate freely. Each panel consists of hundreds of tiny pendulums mounted on a flexible wire mesh lattice. A motor linked to a heart rate sensor controls the frequency of the vibration and sets in the fields of pendulums in motion. By placing their thumbs on the sensor, viewers heart rates are revealed. A collaboration with HOK and SHOP Architects, the cost was $238,000.
